Snow like we haven't seen it!

When we decided to move to Michigan, I was thrilled to be in a place where snow was not a once or twice a year exception to the rule. This year brought more snow than we ever could have imagined (or wanted, after a certain point!). The area schools had about 12 snow days, beginning with the first 3 days after Christmas break and ending in mid March. For much of January and February, we had at least 2 feet of snow on the ground! Almost too much for the boys to be playing in--walking up the hill for sledding was so hard! The snow was at least knee deep on both me and Ed.
These pictures show the crazy-deep beautiful snow we experienced in January and February.

Looking up at our deck--that's probably 15" of snow on the railing. Ed snowblowed/shoveled the deck two or three times to reduce the weight on it.

You wouldn't know it, but there is a holly bush decorated in Christmas lights under that snow pile, right by our front walk. You can also just see one of the light-up snowflakes on a stick in the foreground. All 6 of these were ultimately buried.

See our mailbox? The poor mail lady had a rough winter.

The deck after Ed shoveled half of it off.

There was enough snow piled up that the 6-foot retaining wall behind our deck became an impromptu sledding hill.

The snowblower got ALOT of use this winter.

Snow covered roads were great for cross country skiing and even sledding. Not so much for driving. We played in the snow one afternoon when Kathy and Piper visited.

Even Piper went sledding!
