Allegan County Fair

Alice and I took the boys on our first 3-boy field trip--to the Allegan County Fair. The weather was perfect, and the fair the perfect size for Thomas and Jojo. Two hours of fair bliss!

What a huge tire!

Climbing on farm equipment, with help from Grandma

Checking out the pigs!

And the sheep!

Baaa!

Thomas and Grandma tried out a ride that he was tall enough to do

The boys both rode the carousel

We finished up our fair experience with a funnel cake to share...yum! And Ben slept through the entire fair--exactly what I was hoping for!

TJ and Jojo's first day(s) of school

While Tom and Alice were in town, both TJ and Jojo had their first day of school. Kindergarten for TJ and preschool for Jojo--these boys are growing up fast!

Here's Thomas on his first day of kindergarten. The first day was just an hour of class with mom and dad in tow. Big smiles!

At his school:

Waiting for the bus on the second day (the first full day):

Getting on the bus!

A successful day at school: getting off the bus at the end of the day:

Thomas comes home every day with things he learned in kindergarten he wants to try on us--raising hands to get more milk at dinner or leave the table to go to the bathroom, step-by-step lessons on how to draw a pencil, morning meetings...he claims he hasn't learned anything yet, but he really enjoys kindergarten so far!

Oh, and on the second day, while Alice, the two little boys and I were waiting for him to get off the bus, I saw him roll his eyes. He got off the bus and informed me that I didn't need to wait at the corner for him--he'd rather I waited back at the house or at least off the street. Talk about growing up fast!

Jojo started 3-year-old preschool--since he knew the routine and the teachers from TJ's last two years, he was an expert! Big smiles here too.

When he got back in the car, I asked how school was. He gave me a rundown of the day and then asked, "any more questions?" After listening to TJ tell us about his day for the first few days of school, Jojo knew exactly what we wanted to hear! :)

Grandma and Grandpa meet Ben!

Tom and Alice arrived on Labor Day to meet Benjamin and spend the week with us. Little Ben is grandchild #10 and grandson #7 for them! The timing worked out really well--they arrived just before both boys started school, which was a perfect time to have some extra sets of hands!

Here's Ben wearing Ed's coming home from the hospital outfit, 37 years later

Complete with bonnet! Here he seems to be thinking, "seriously?!?!"

He's happier without the bonnet!

Who does Ben look like?

Um, no contest. I'll show all the baby pictures, but this kid is a mini TJ, no question. (Though it looks like he'll have brown eyes!) It may not be super obvious in these pics, but we see it more and more every day.

TJ and Jojo fun

While Ben was busy enjoying his first week of life, the big boys had plenty of fun too!
They visited the dunes with Grammy and Buppa:

Resting after the big climb to the top:

Picnic lunch in Benton Harbor:

The boys baked zucchini bread with Grammy:

We went to a splash pad:

Our neighbor gave them gummy snakes, which they loved:

Jojo didn't want to get his hands sticky, so he preferred to be fed like a baby bird.

Thanks, Grammy and Buppa, for all the entertainment!

Meanwhile, Ben turned 1 week old:
