A spring full of t-ball

Much to his excitement, we signed Thomas up for t-ball this spring. He played on a team with two of his preschool friends, and Ed helped another dad coach. Thomas actually could have played last year as well; they have t-ball for 4 year olds. But after seeing 5-year-old t-ball, we'll stick with that as a starting age!

We had games every Friday night and Saturday morning from early May through mid June. It was a cool spring--I'd envisioned all these balmy game time temperatures where we sat in our folding chairs wearing t-shirts and flip flops. In reality, we brought blankets, hats and mittens to the first three weeks' worth of games, at least! Thomas loved it and did really well--which we like to think is because of how much we play in the yard. :)

Here's TJ hitting:
The boys got 3 chances to hit a coach-pitched ball each at bat and if they didn't connect, they used the tee.

And playing in the field: (all 10 boys played infield, with a coach pitcher and catcher). There was plenty of goofing around, herds of kids chasing after hit balls, and very few "outs." Regardless of an actual out, each kid got to run the bases each inning and everybody hit each inning. So basically the fact that not many outs were actually made was immaterial.

A blurry pic, but this was a common occurrence--a scuffle between teammates over who actually fielded the ball. TJ is one of those boys in the blur.

Jojo and several of the other little brothers played trucks in the gravel during the games. And snacked. Constantly.

And a video of one of his hits:
