Yardwork: the big push before we slacked off

At the end of April and into May, we spent a lot of time (for us!) doing yardwork. Which turned out to be a good thing, because once we hit June, we did none!

One Saturday, Ed had to work. I wanted to get some mulch and spread it, so the boys and I did just that. They were a huge help--both pushing it off the tailgate of the truck and loading it into the little wheelbarrow. I was pretty happy to just give direction and then rake it into place. We were able to spread mulch into all of our flower beds. Hands down the most amusing part of this project (fortunately not captured on film!) was me maneuvering the truck around the driveway so the tailgate was in the correct spots. It wasn't a Y-turn--more like an asterisk-turn with all of the back and forth!

Helping fertilize

Double helpers!

This is a collage of photos from another weekend. I was outside hard at work while the other three napped.

Here's a little bit of our finished work--we raked fake rocks out of the bed by the mailbox, then Alice weeded when she was in town (thanks, Alice!), and then we filled in with mulch. Much better!

And the stone edging around the main flower bed in our front yard. This was part one of a three-part Menard's Saturday morning trip in May. It really went in quickly, much to our surprise!
